CAPCO was founded in 1976 as a joint venture among the Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) process technology developer--BP, CPC Corporation,Taiwan. PTA is the raw material for manufacturing polyester fiber and chips with a wide range of applications in our daily lives. At present, CAPCO's capital reaches NT$7.072 billion, with more than 60% of the stocks held by BP while the rest are held by Chinese shareholders.

In 1979, the first PTA manufacturing plant in Taiwan was set up by CAPCO with an annual capacity of 150 thousand tons. Afterwards, CAPCO endeavored in the expansion of the second, the third, the fourth, and the fifth plants in Lin Yuan Petrochemical Industrial Complex, Kaohsiung County in southern Taiwan, from
1982, 1989, 1990, up to 1995 respectively. With a total land area of 31 hectares and 1.42-million-ton annual production capacity, the site of the five plants has become the largest PTA single production site in the world. In May of 2003, CAPCO began production in the Taichung plant which situates at the West Terminal of Taichung Harbor in Wu Chi Town, Taichung County of central Taiwan. It has a total land area of 30 hectares and 700-thousand-ton annual production capacity. As a result, the total production capacity of the Kaohsiung plants and the Taichung plant can reach 2.12 million tons annually. CAPCO has become the largest PTA producer in Asia.

Over the years, CAPCO has always been at the leading position in this industry and continuously introduces new concepts, methodologies, and advanced technology and equipment.
